Getting Organized: Yarn Overhauled

As you know, one of my goals this year is to get organized.  My yarn stash was one of those things that needed an overhaul.

After seeing how surprised people were with how much yarn I had, I thought I'd show you how worked to get it organized.

I inventoried the yarn I wanted to keep.  I gave the rest to a teacher friend.

I don't have many places to store all the yarn so I have to create space.  Thanks to Courtney from Baxtron{Life} for giving me her Trader Joe's Coffee Canisters. Combined with my own I created this wall system. I got the idea from Pinterest.

I have a shoe organizer that i had used for a long time to store the skeins of yarn but instead this time am using two thirds of the compartments to store in process projects. The bottom two spaces hold my super fine yarn.

I put the most popular yarn I use in two shelves of a bookcase and the rest of the yarn went into an under the bed storage container.  I cut my yarn down by 1/3 which is a big step for this yarn hoarder.  One step at a time, right?

It feels good to have this project done. Now I just have to organize the rest of my room/apartment. i am a messy packrat sometimes...

How are your goals coming along this year?

13 in 2013: Getting Organized

I'm an admin girl. Almost every job I have had since I was 21 has been some sort of administrative job. I am good at being that person.  When it comes to other people!  But when it comes to my own life.... I can't do it to save my life!

I am messy!  Not dirty but messy. I always have been. I have all sorts of piles all over the apartment. I'd love to say its just in my room but unfortunately for my roommate it flows into every other room.

The thing is... I don't know how it gets that way.  When I clean, I think "this is it. I will be better after this."  But then 2 days later there are piles.  I honestly don't see myself doing it.  I am half convinced there are little messy trolls running around throwing my stuff about.

The last year or so I have tried everything to get more organized.  I have read blogs, pinned pins, and  crafted to get myself more organized.  Slowly I can see it getting better but its not quite there yet.

So I thought if I made it one of my 13 and I promised to blog about it that maybe the extra accountability would help... Now I know these goals that I blog about are still my goals and you aren't going to be checking in but I like to pretend that someone will... hey whatever it takes, right?  So that is my plan. And in true Kim fashion I have broken this goal down into smaller goals that i can do throughout the year. (ps-trying to remember that this is 13 in 2013 and not 13 in january).

So here goes the Get Organized List for 2013

1) Purge - Get rid of all that unneeded stuff. (clothes, materials, yarn, shoes, etc)
Already started tackling some of these.

2) Coffee Canister Wall - Already have up some but want to put up more!

3) Put clothes away at the end of the day

4) Spend 10 minutes a day putting things away.

I have lots of goals this year, huh?  Well hopefully they will keep me busy!

THanks for stopping by, friends!

PINTEREST : GETTING ORGANIZED

I've been talking about getting organized for months now.  And I have actually been doing well with it... at least with the limited space and resources I have living in NYC.  But today, I thought I'd share with you some ideas I found on Pinterest.  If I had the money and the space, I'd totally incorporate many of these ideas.

ENJOY

I've been somewhat obsessed with Chalkboard paint or items that you can write on with chalk.  Its amazing the different things you can do with the stuff.  I remember when whiteboards came out and we all thought the way of chalk boards was out! NOT ANYMORE.  Look at all the organizing and design styles you can do with chalkboard paint!

Hope you enjoy!
HAPPY PINNING!

1 hour to 10 minutes

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I was trying to get organized.  I am not an overly dirty person.  I don't enjoy being messy, but I am a touch lazy at times.  Laziness eventually leads to overwhelmed which leads to unorganized.

Getting Organized

I realized in the last few weeks that i am in desperate need of getting organized.  I don't just mean physically, but mentally as well... I think it has to start a little with physically getting organized.  I am feeling super overwhelmed with all of the things I can and want to do. I never know where to start.  Having an unorganized room and apartment makes it even harder for me to get anywhere.  Its all out of control.

I have been reading lots of "Get Organized" articles and blogs.  The problem with many of them is that they are written for the suburban mom with the big house and lots of storage options... oh and a larger budget.  But when you live in a tiny Manhattan apartment with no real storage and you have half an income, getting organized feels like its next to impossible... I said "next to".  I am bound and determined to make this work.  I think i might invite you to join me. All 20 of you who might read this blog :) I might even turn it into a challenge since I can't seem to do anything without a goal to reach.  What better way then a Blog Challenge.

Now, I just have to get organized in how I am going to get organized... Dizzy? Yeah me too.
